GEPCO Solar in Gujranwala: What Changed in 2026
Gujranwala falls under the GEPCO (Gujranwala Electric Power Company) distribution zone. If you are installing solar in Gujranwala, your grid connection, net billing application and electricity billing are all handled through GEPCO. What changed in 2026 is important before you decide on system sizing.
Net Billing Has Replaced Net Metering
NEPRA notified the Distributed Generation and Net Billing Regulations 2026 on February 9, 2026. All new solar connections to the GEPCO grid from that date are governed by net billing, not net metering. Under net billing, GEPCO purchases any surplus electricity you export to the grid at the national average energy purchase price, currently approximately PKR 11 per unit. You pay the standard consumer tariff when importing from GEPCO, currently PKR 40 to 50 or more depending on your consumption slab.
System sizing for Gujranwala customers needs to account for this. A system sized to match your daytime consumption returns significantly more value than an oversized system designed to export surplus at the lower buyback rate. We design every new installation around self-consumption first.
Existing GEPCO Net Metering Contracts
If you already have a GEPCO net metering approval from before February 9, 2026, your contract remains valid under the old terms until it expires. Two of our completed Gujranwala installations: the Madina Colony residential project and the Peoples Colony mosque project, both received GEPCO net metering approval before the regulation change. Both remain on the original terms.

GEPCO Net Billing Application in Gujranwala
Ezee Control processes GEPCO net billing applications through our third-party AEDB-licensed partner. We coordinate the documentation, AEDB submission, GEPCO inspection and bidirectional meter installation on your behalf. The process typically takes 6 to 10 weeks after system commissioning.

Gujranwala Solar Fact: Under net billing, every unit of solar electricity consumed directly in your property saves you PKR 40 to 50 or more. Every unit exported earns approximately PKR 11. Self-consumption is now 3 to 4 times more valuable than export for Gujranwala GEPCO customers.
What Makes Gujranwala Different for Solar
Gujranwala is one of Pakistan's major industrial cities. That matters directly for solar.
Industrial Dust and Panel Cleaning Frequency
Gujranwala's steel, textile, ceramics and light engineering industries produce significant particulate in the air. Panels accumulate dust faster here than in cleaner cities. In the April to June period before monsoon, when wind is low and humidity is high, dust settles on panels continuously. A thin but consistent dust layer reduces panel output by 10 to 20 percent.
For Gujranwala installations, we recommend cleaning panels every 3 to 4 weeks between April and September. Use a soft brush and clean water. Clean in the early morning when panels are cool. Cleaning panels regularly protects your investment more than anything else after installation.
Load Shedding Pattern in Gujranwala
Load shedding in Gujranwala varies by area and season. Central urban areas typically experience 4 to 8 hours of load shedding per day in summer. Areas on the outskirts and in industrial belts can experience longer schedules. For most Gujranwala homes and businesses, a battery bank sized for 4 to 6 hours covers the typical daily outage.
For properties where continuity is critical, clinics, schools during exams, factories on production deadlines, we size the battery to cover the maximum expected daily outage, not just the average.
Roof Types in Gujranwala
Most properties in Gujranwala have RCC flat roofs. Flat roofs require elevated mounting structures to achieve the correct tilt angle, typically 25 to 30 degrees for optimal annual generation in Punjab. Four of our five completed Gujranwala installations used customised elevated mounting structures. This is standard in Gujranwala. We include it in every proposal.
Water tank placement, parapet height and AC outdoor units are the most common shading sources on Gujranwala flat roofs. We map these during the site survey and position panels to minimise shading losses.
GT Road and Sialkot Road Industrial Belt
The GT Road and Sialkot Road corridors in Gujranwala have a high concentration of factories, workshops, plazas and commercial buildings on 3-phase GEPCO connections with large sanctioned loads. These properties typically have significant roof space, high daytime electricity consumption and strong financial cases for commercial solar. We assess 3-phase commercial projects for these areas after reviewing the electricity bill, connection type and roof space.
