Audit vs Maintenance — What You Actually Need

People contact us for a solar audit when they want a formal written finding about their system. They contact us for maintenance when they want the system serviced or a fault fixed. The deliverable is different. The situation that prompts each service is different.
You want an audit if...
You want maintenance if...
Your system is underperforming and you need documented proof of what is wrong
Your inverter is showing a fault code and you want it fixed
You are buying a property with an existing solar system and want an independent inspection before completing the purchase
Your panels need cleaning
You have a dispute with your original installer and need a third-party technical opinion
Your battery is not charging correctly and you want it diagnosed and repaired
You want to know what your system should be generating vs what it actually generates
You want a scheduled maintenance visit twice a year
A bank, insurer or legal process requires a formal written technical report
You want someone to set up your monitoring app
If you are not sure which service you need, contact us and describe the situation. We will advise.

Three Situations Where a Technical Audit Is the Right Choice

Existing System That Is Underperforming

Your solar system was installed a year or two ago with promised savings that never materialised. Your GEPCO bill is still high. The monitoring app shows generation figures but they seem low. You want to know whether the system was designed correctly, installed correctly, and is operating correctly — and you want that answer in writing so you can take it back to whoever installed it.

An audit gives you a calculated expected generation figure for your system capacity and location, a measured actual generation figure from the monitoring data, and a written finding on what is causing the gap and what corrective action is required.

Pre-Purchase Property Inspection

You are buying a residential or commercial property that has an existing solar system. The seller is presenting the system as an asset. You want to know its actual condition before completing the purchase. Is it generating what the seller claims? Is the equipment genuine? Is the installation safe? Is the earthing correct? Is the battery near end of life?

A pre-purchase audit gives you a documented answer to each of these questions. It tells you whether the system adds value to the property or whether it will require significant remedial work after purchase.

Third-Party Dispute Resolution

You have a dispute with your solar installer. The system is not performing as agreed and the installer is either unresponsive or disputing the claim. You need an independent technical opinion from a qualified party that documents the system condition, identifies the fault and confirms whether the installation meets the standard it was sold at.

Our written audit report can be used as supporting documentation in a dispute with an installer, an insurance claim or a consumer complaint. We document findings objectively. We do not advocate for either party. We state what we find.
All three audit types are available for systems installed by any company. We do not limit audit services to Ezee Control installations.

What the Technical Audit Covers

Panel Performance Assessment

Visual inspection of all panels for soiling, micro-cracks, delamination, hotspots, discolouration and physical damage. String open-circuit voltage measurement to identify underperforming strings. Shading map review to assess whether shading has increased since installation. Comparison of measured string output against nameplate specifications.

Generation Data Analysis

We review the inverter monitoring data for the past 3 to 12 months. Actual generation is compared against the calculated expected generation for the installed capacity, your location and the measured irradiance data for the same period. The performance ratio is calculated and the gap between expected and actual is quantified in kilowatt-hours and in PKR based on your current GEPCO tariff.

Inverter Inspection

Inverter fault history review. Operating parameter check including AC and DC voltage, current and power readings. Comparison of measured DC input against calculated array output. Temperature check. Firmware version confirmed. Communication and monitoring status verified.

Wiring and Connections

DC string wiring route inspection. MC4 connector condition and tightness. AC output wiring from inverter to distribution board. Cable ratings checked against installed system capacity. Any visible insulation damage, UV degradation or improper jointing identified.

Earthing and Protection Verification

Earthing continuity test. Earth resistance measurement. Presence and rating of DC and AC surge protection devices confirmed. DC and AC isolator presence and labelling checked. Anti-islanding protection confirmed active on inverter.

Battery System Check (Hybrid and ESS Systems)

BMS communication status. State of health from BMS data where accessible. Charge and discharge cycle count. Cell temperature and voltage balance. Physical condition of battery enclosure and connections.

Equipment Authenticity Check

Serial numbers of panels, inverter and batteries are checked against manufacturer records where the portal is accessible. We note whether the equipment matches the brand and model specified in the original installation documentation provided.

Written Audit Report

Every audit concludes with a written report documenting all findings, the performance gap calculation, any faults identified, equipment condition ratings and specific recommended corrective actions. The report includes the system details, audit date, our findings engineer's name and the methodology used.

THE WRITTEN AUDIT REPORT

The written report is the primary deliverable of every audit. It is a formal document, not a verbal summary. It is structured to be readable by a non-technical owner and usable as supporting documentation in a dispute or transaction.
Report Section
What It Contains
System Details
Address, system size, installer name if known, installation date if known, inverter brand and model, panel brand and model, battery brand and model
Audit Scope
List of all checks carried out during the audit visit
Performance Analysis
Calculated expected generation vs measured actual generation. Performance ratio. Generation gap in kWh and PKR.
Findings
Each fault or deficiency found, categorised as critical, significant or minor, with a description of the finding and its likely cause
Photographic Evidence
Photographs of each finding with the relevant panel, inverter, wiring or earthing component labelled
Recommendations
Specific corrective actions for each finding. Priority ranking. Estimated correction scope (not cost — repair quotation is separate).
Conclusion
Overall system condition rating. Summary of action required before the system can be considered fully operational and safe.
Engineer Details
Name of the engineer who conducted the audit. Date of audit visit. Date of report issue.

Solar Technical Audit Questions

Will you audit a system you did not install?

Yes. We audit solar systems installed by any company across Pakistan. We do not require any prior relationship with the installer. We inspect the system objectively and report what we find.

How much does an audit cost?

The audit fee depends on system size and your property location. We confirm the fee before scheduling. The fee covers the site visit, all inspection checks and the written report. Repair work identified during the audit is quoted separately.

Can I use the audit report as evidence in a dispute with my installer?

Yes. The report documents findings objectively with photographic evidence, performance calculations and specific fault descriptions. It can be used as supporting documentation in a dispute with an installer, a consumer complaint or an insurance claim. We state what we find — we do not advocate for either party.

What is the difference between a solar audit and a maintenance visit?

A maintenance visit diagnoses and repairs specific faults and carries out servicing. An audit produces a formal written report documenting the full system condition, performance gap and recommended corrective actions. An audit is investigative and documentary. Maintenance is operational and corrective. Both are available from Ezee Control.

I am buying a property with solar. Should I get an audit before purchasing?

Yes. A pre-purchase audit confirms whether the system is generating as claimed, whether the equipment is genuine, whether the installation is safe and whether any remedial work is needed. It gives you documented information to factor into the purchase decision or negotiate with the seller.

How long does the audit visit take?

A residential system up to 10kW typically takes 2 to 3 hours on site. Larger commercial systems take longer. The written report is issued within 2 working days of the visit.

Does the audit include equipment authentication?

Yes. We check serial numbers of panels, inverter and batteries against manufacturer records where the verification portal is accessible. We note whether the installed equipment matches the brand and model stated in the original documentation. Counterfeit solar equipment is a real problem in Pakistan and this check is included in every audit.
